Bond doubled for former Boy Scout volunteer

Posted

PLOVER — Steven Lorang, 57, had his bond doubled to half a million dollars in connection to a sexual assault case stemming from his time as a Boy Scout volunteer for a Stevens Point troop.

The change in bond comes from one of Lorang’s ten charges being modified. A charge of second degree sexual assault of an intoxicated victim was amended to first degree sexual assault of a child with use of threat, force, or violence.

He faces nine additional felony charges, including five counts of second degree sexual assault of a child, and four counts of child enticement/sexual contact.

The Plover Police Department received information in July 2026 regarding accusations that Lorang groomed and sexually assaulted an individual fifteen years ago. Following the tip, detectives met with other potential victims.

During an Aug. 31 interview with police, Lorang admitted to engaging in grooming and sexual activity with a juvenile who he had met through his affiliation with Boy Scout troop 297 based in Stevens Point.

Lorang was originally given a $250,000 cash bond, however, on Sept. 10 his bond was doubled to a $500,000 cash bond.

Lorang is expected back in Portage County court on Sept. 14.
