Former Boy Scout volunteer arrested for sexual assault

PLOVER — Steven Lorang, 57, was arrested for sexual assault stemming from his time as a boy scout volunteer.

The Plover Police Department received information in July 2026 regarding accusations that Lorang groomed and sexually assaulted an individual fifteen years ago. Following the tip, detectives met with other potential victims.

During an Aug. 31 interview with police, Lorang admitted to engaging in grooming and sexual activity with a juvenile who he had met through his affiliation with Boy Scout Pack 297 based in Stevens Point.

Lorang was arrested and faces ten felony charges, including five counts of second degree sexual assault of a child, four counts of child enticement/sexual contact, and one count of second degree sexual assault of an intoxicated victim.

Lorang is currently being held on a $250,000 cash bond, however should he post bail, he must follow conditions that include no contact with the three victims, no contact with children under the age of 18-years-old, no contact with the Boy Scouts of America, surrender passport, not to leave the state of Wisconsin, not to possess any form of pornography, maintain absolute sobriety, and report to Portage County Justice Programs.

Lorang is expected back in Portage County court on Sept. 16.
